On this day, 13 November 1938, US screen icon and Black Panther supporter Jean Seberg, who was hounded to death by the FBI, was born in Iowa . She provided large amounts of financial support to the NAACP, Native American education groups, and the Panthers, including the free breakfast for school children program. As part of the FBI’s COINTELPRO program to attack radical groups she already had her phone tapped and they decided to neutralise her, planting false stories in the press which eventually led to the death of her premature baby and her subsequent suicide.
More info in this article about the events by Elaine Brown, a Panther leader and one of Seberg’s Party contacts: https://libcom.org/history/reflections-jean-seberg-black-panther-party-elaine-brown https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1853216234863518/?type=3

Women in Poland demand justice for victim of anti-abortion law -

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

Tens of thousands of women marched in the Polish capital Warsaw on Saturday, November 6, protesting the tragic death of a 30-year-old woman, Izabela, from pregnancy-related complications in Pszczyna. Protests were called by feminist groups, including the National Women’s Strike (Strajk Kobiet), and marches were held in all major cities in the country.

The protesters blamed the strict anti-abortion directive imposed by the Polish Constitutional Court at the behest of the incumbent conservative government led by the Law and Justice (PiS) party for Izabela’s death. Members from opposition political parties, including Lewica Razem, (Left Together) also participated in the protests.

workingclasshistory:

On this day, 13 November 1909, suffragette Theresa Garnett attacked then-Home Secretary Winston Churchill with a horsewhip in Bristol, shouting “Take that in the name of the insulted women of England!” Garnett was arrested for assault, but as Churchill did not want to appear in court he did not press charges. So instead she was jailed for one month for “disturbing the peace”. In prison, Garnett joined other suffragettes on hunger strike and was then force-fed. She set fire to her cell in protest, and was then moved to a solitary confinement punishment cell.
