The military loses trillions.
this is an excellent point and also i want to clarify: politicians don’t talk how much the military ‘loses’ because of how very many privately held companies are pocketing that money, and also forking some of it right back as lobbying/bribes to an awful lot of politicians.
kind of funny that the only money you consistently hear about being 'lost’ is taxpayer money that ends up serving the tax payers.

On this day, 19 December 1916, the Industrial Workers of the World revolutionary union was outlawed in Australia, during the period of its vigorous opposition to World War I. However initially the union continued to grow. But the repression began to bite and cause the union to decline the following year as every member faced six months in jail. Eva Lynch (pictured) was one such member to be prosecuted under the law, and was sentenced to 4 months hard labour.
