one thing i’ve noticed - US mainstream media calls any left wing politician in latin america a leftist or socialist regardless of if their politics actually align with socialism. it’s not hard to figure out why…
The 16 Latin American nations in red currently* have a left-wing government. The 4 nations in pink have a left-wing candidate/party that is currently polling in 1st place for the next elections. The 12 nations in black have neither, either due to a lack of polling data or a non-leftist polling in 1st place.
*The newly-elected leftist governments of Chile and Honduras are in the process of transitioning to power.
