Archelaus (Philosopher)
Archelaus (fl. 5th century BCE) is said to have been the last pre-Socratic philosopher and the first Athenian one, bringing natural philosophy to Athens from Ionia on the current coast of Turkey. Known as the physicist, he studied with Anaxagoras, whose thought had a major impact on his cosmogony, and was, according to some, Socrates’ (l. c. 470/469-399 BCE) teacher.
