Swamp Thing is back!

House ad for the 1982 revival of Swamp Thing, which would really catch fire when Alan Moore took over with #20.

There's a significant spike in ultra-violent right-wing threats against teachers supporting LGBTQ+ rights -

vague-humanoid:

The conservative claim that liberals are engaged in a campaign to “groom” children has resulted in a flood of violent threats, according to a new analysis.

Vice News cited a new report by Advance Democracy, Inc. about an increase in violent comments from conservatives referring to anyone supportive of LGBTQ equality as “groomers.” The word is supposed to mean a pedophile preparing to make a child into an abuse victim, but conservatives are now using the term to describe efforts to educate students about gender identity or sexual orientation.

The over-use of the wold has prompted stories from actual survivors of assault, abuse and exploitation saying that it is belittling their experience. That hasn’t stopped Republicans from downplaying their trauma, however.

The report shows posts on forums like Patriots.win and Gab where users are now making ultra-violent comments and threats against specific teachers, Disney employees and elected officials.

The exact same template of ‘studio-produced channel, with a single narrator to make it seem personal, focused on supposedly-Apolitical technical subjects, also sneaks in obvious propaganda about, say, how despite it seeming like we live in an age of constant war, the world is actually super peaceful (and that the ‘war between Israelis and Palestinians’ is senseless factional violence)’ has been repeated so many times it’s old hat.

whenever i see “democracy” graphed on a chart like it’s a quantifiable data point, i only think of this

Here's Musk's complete letter to Twitter's board chair offering to buy the company | Boing Boing -

merelygifted:

As reported this morning, barbarian at the gate Elon Musk offered to buy Twitter for $43 billion. It’s “not a threat,” Musk said along with the SEC filing. “It’s simply not a good investment without the changes that need to be made. And those changes won’t happen without taking the company private.” Here’s the full text of the letter Musk sent to Twitter board chair Bret Taylor:

I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy.

However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.

As a result, I am offering to buy 100 percent of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, a 54 percent premium over the day before I began investing in Twitter and a 38 percent premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced. My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder.

Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it.

Movement of “Tea” & “Cha” Around the Globe

This map shows the phenomena of the movement of tea, and what it’s called around the globe. Around the world, there are mainly 2 root words for tea, ‘te’ and ‘cha’, and both of these come from China. Where the use of ‘cha’ occurred through land trade, primarily along the Silk Road, the name ‘te’ spread through sea trade primarily by the Dutch traders who were bringing tea to Europe. Regions in the world where tea grows naturally often have their own word for tea which has not derived from the Chinese.
