American women can obtain abortions in Canada if Roe v. Wade falls, minister says -
American women will be able to obtain abortions in Canada if the United States Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade and returns abortion law to the state level, says Karina Gould, minister of families, children and social development.
In an interview with CBC News Network’s Power & Politics on Tuesday, Gould was asked if American women would be allowed to access the procedure in Canada.
“I don’t see why we would not,” she told host Vassy Kapelos. “If they, people, come here and need access, certainly, you know, that’s a service that would be provided.”

I mean, that’s great, but they’d still have to have a passport, money to get here, money to stay somewhere, money to pay for the procedure. It’s a nice sentiment, but coming here is out of reach for most.
Attacking Roe isn’t just misogyny, it’s class warfare.
The wealthy will still be able to go to wherever abortion remains legal. The poor will have to suffer without access to the most fundamental right to our own bodies.
Also, I live in Canada and I know how to spot bullshit posturing when I see it. Canada loves to pretend to be so much more progressive than the US and secretly lives to kill the poor and the sick. No fucking way, even if a poor person could get together enough money, would they be given an abortion.
I’m in Canada and my abortion was free 10.5 years ago, and my friend’s abortion two years ago was also free.
I can find no official cost attached for someone without a Canadian citizenship, either.
Canada does suck just as much as you say, but I have the lived experience and abortion only costs money at private dedicated clinics for the rich. Public clinics and hospitals are free. It is considered essential medicine. An American can come here, break and arm, and not expect a cost for service beyond an ambulance, y'know?
If you want the most lax province, come to BC, we go up to six months in most cases and care is extremely prompt.

On this day, 6 May 1933, Nazis of the German Student Union raided the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (Sexology Institute) in Berlin. Run by Magnus Hirschfeld, the institute was a pioneering organisation that supported gay and transgender rights and equality for women. Hirschfeld coined the term “transsexualism.” The institute employed at least one transgender worker and had begun offering the first modern gender affirmation surgery.
A few days after the raid, the institute’s huge library was burned in the streets while propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels delivered a speech. The Nazis then stepped up persecution of all LGBT+ people, although, in particular, gay men and trans women were targeted, with thousands sent to concentration camps. Some of them were forced to serve out their sentences by Allied authorities after “liberation.”
