Proud Boys leader and top members charged with seditious conspiracy over January 6 -
They of course did this entirely on their own, with no support or inspiration of anyone in the government.
I feel like one prominent fascist told these guys to “Stand by.” Gosh, who was that?
So I saw something on Rachel Maddow last night that gives me hope.
Apparently, in the past, practically every time white-supremacist militias have been tried for sedition, they’ve been acquitted. The bar to proving this crime is super high.
Maddow says that because prosecutors know this, they are very, very careful about bringing charges unless they think their case is airtight. And in this case, some of the people who were charged with sedition – not the Proud Boys, but some of the other Jan 6 gang of rogues – have pled guilty. Their highly paid defense lawyers, knowing how easy it is usually to win acquittal for these kinds of asswipes, looked at the evidence the prosecution had and advised them to take a plea.
I actually have high hopes for these charges. This time, due to the sheer massive amount of self-incriminating evidence that can be acquired through selfies, self-taken videos and text messages, justice might actually be done.
