Reblogging again. Firefox is an excellent, safe and fast browser and everyone should consider using it.

Don’t just consider it. If you have the ability to switch to Firefox, this is your official notice to do it.

Stop everything you’re doing and go download and install Firefox.

If you’re saying, “well, I need Chrome because I need such-and-such extension for my job”, the computer will not explode if you install another browser. Use Chrome ONLY for work tasks and use Firefox for everything else. If you’re concerned about losing your bookmarks, Firefox can import your Chrome bookmarks.

image

[ID: Firefox Library window. The “Import and Backup” panel is expanded, displaying the option, “Import Data from Another Browser”, which is also circled with a red MS Paint ellipse. ID end.]

And, don’t forget to install uBlock Origin while you’re at it.

Forgot a thing. Subscribe to Mozilla VPN for bonus points. It’s basically the only truly secure VPN service in the world right now.

For $5 a month, you can completely conceal your online activities from your ISP in a manner that isn’t just immediately monetised or turned over to the cops. No, it’s not free, it does cost money, but the money doesn’t go to line a billionaire’s pockets.

I wonder how much of this is because of work/school from home forcing people to use Chrome so all their stupid monitoring softwares and platforms can work.

This is also your reminder that you don’t have to use just one browser. You can use chrome for all the monitoring bullshit your office wants you to run and use firefox for everything else.

Be sure to add the multi account containers extension to your firefox, which allows you to be logged in to multiple accounts on the same website at the same time in the same window but in different tabs.

look on my five open tumblr accounts (not sideblogs, accounts!) ye mighty and despair.

Firefox is super good, folks. It’s good in a general “google shouldn’t own everything in the entire fucking world” sense AND in a “this is an actual good product that does lots of cool shit” sense.

ALSO make sure to add the Ublock origin extension on Firefox - I haven’t seen a youtube ad in five years and you don’t have to either.

While you’re at it, why not add the Wayback Machine extension so that if you go looking for a page that has been taken down the wayback machine will automatically offer you an archived version instead; also handy for documenting people’s shitty takes and winning arguments after they delete the original post!

Worried that Firefox is going to slow down your computer? In benchmarks, modern versions of chrome and firefox are pretty much the same speed but you can still install the auto tab discard extension ANYWAY so that it will snooze unused tabs in order to keep your computer running faster. Set it to sleep, discard, close, and store tags at your discretion!

And while you’re at it: install Firefox as your mobile browser for android and add those extensions to your mobile browser! Mobile adblock is here, baybee, save your data and enjoy a better mobile experience! And install it on iOS! iOS can’t add extensions, but at least it’s better than safari, and if you want a somewhat more private iOS browsing experience try firefox focus for iOS (which is also available on android but you can accomplish the same thing with extensions).

Anyway, firefox is good.

Warned of ‘massive’ climate-led extinction, a US energy firm funded crisis denial ads -

ms-cellanies:

This article focuses on just ONE FOSSIL FUEL COMPANY.  However, ALL FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES HAVE SPENT BILLIONS TO CONVINCE A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE THAT CLIMATE CHANGE ISN’T REAL.  Of course, those pushing CLIMATE DENIAL have been aware all along that they are poisoning the planet and wiping out a massive amount of life forms.  Getting richer & richer is much more important to them.

Check out this link which is much more comprehensive in identifying THE MANY VILLAINS killing the planet:   https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jun/08/georgia-southern-company-climate-denial-ads

Image Description:

Two screenshots of a Bloomberg News article that read: “The promise of wages moving up is a great thing,” Powell told reporters on Wednesday after the Fed raised interest rates by a quarter percentage point and signaled six more to come this year. “But the increases are running at levels that are well above what would be consistent with our 2% inflation goal over time.”

Wages rose at a year-on-year rate of 5.8% in February, the fastest pace in data going back to 1997, according to calculations by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. That’s markedly above the roughly 4% level that would be consistent with 2% inflation and 2% growth in worker productivity.

The Fed sees inflation, as measured by the personal consumption expenditures price index, falling to 2.7% by the end of next year and 2.3% by the close of 2024, according to the median forecast of policy makers released on Wednesday. The figure was 6.1% in January.

As Powell suggested, that’s probably not doable unless wage gains slow. But it’s not clear how that would come about if the labor market stays as tight as policy makers expect. They forecast unemployment will fall to 3.5% by the end of 2022 from February’s 3.8%, then basically hold at that level through 2024. That’s below the 4% mark they reckon is consistent with maximum employment in the longer run.

“It’s fanciful to think that we don’t see an increase in the unemployment rate,” given the impact that the Fed’s planned rate increases will have on the economy, said Diane Swonk, chief economist at Grant Thornton.

In other words, the fears of the Fed are specifically that these high wages indicate inflation much higher than is ideal, and that they will lead to higher unemployment numbers. The Fed is in charge of regulating inflation and unemployment through setting federal interest rates, and if they’re saying something bad is about to happen, it’s worth paying attention to. Please read real news articles before reblogging things that seem sensationalist.

“uhm, it’s actually good that the fed wants to reduce your wages, because they pinkie promise they have a good reason to. see, it says so right here, in fucking bloomberg”

i am begging you to stop being a stupid chump

my god, and you didn’t even read your own excerpt. did you see where it said they were worried the forecasted 3.5% unemployment rate would be too low, and that they’re aiming for a 4% unemployment rate that they consider to be “consistent with maximum employment in the longer run”? they’re trying to raise the unemployment rate you moron.

dear fucking god you’re so desperate to shill for the fed you’re not even reading your own sources. jesus.

having had some time to cool down and get less mad about what a moron they are, let’s explore why they probably misread the article as meaning the fed wanted to reduce unemployment.

what i suspect got them was the phrase “maximum employment in the longer run”- now, someone who isn’t well-versed in economics might assume that’s they mean the maximum possible employment. that is not the case. what they mean is, the maximum that they, the fed, want to allow. it is capitalist gospel that an unemployment rate approximately 4%-5% is ideal, and the fed, following this gospel, want to raise unemployment to the level they consider preferable.

in truth, achieving and sustaining lower unemployment rates is entirely possible. cuba has an unemployment rate of 1.6, and Laos maintains a shockingly low 0.6. the claim that 4%-5% unemployment is in any way desirable is just an ad-hoc justification for trying to maintain a reserve army of labor to force the market value of labor down. the next time you witness the suffering caused by unemployment- the next time you see people sleeping on the street, their health failing as the elements take their toll- remember that this was deliberate. rich, powerful people worked hard to make sure that happened. every day they are working to find new ways to hurt you, so that they can buy that second yacht, that third vacation home.

A punch is too fucking soft.

And besides…

After one solid clock to the jaw, now memed into perpetuity, Dick Spencer is afraid to show his Nazi face in public. Direct action gets the goods.

People still asking “so this means I should punch anyone I disagree with, then?”

No, it means you should punch nazis because they disagree with other people living.

Also worth noting, here’s an excerpt from the 1939 book Fascism and Big Business by Daniel Guérin:

If in the beginning, when the Hitler bands were still weak, the workers’ parties had answered them blow for blow, there is no doubt their development would have been hampered. On this point we have the testimony of the National Socialist leaders themselves.

Hitler confessed in retrospect: Only one thing could have broken our movement – if the adversary had understood its principle and from the first day had smashed, with the most extreme brutality, the nucleus of our new movement.”

And Goebbels: “If the enemy had known how weak we were, it would probably have reduced us to jelly…. It would have crushed in blood the very beginning of our work.”

Punch them. Make them afraid to spread their poison. Oppose them in every avenue available to you because we know what happens when this goes unchecked.

More context about this quote is on Snopes.

The other point we keep bringing up to those who gasp and clutch their pearls in shock and horror when they see fascists being met with violence is that fascist violence is a serious, serious threat to our communities.  By our count, bigots and fascists have murdered eighteen people this year and seriously injured thirty-five in a series of shootings, stabbings, arsons, and mob attacks.  Pretending that anti-fascist violence is the real concern in the face of fascist attacks like these = willingly engaging in the logical fallacy of false equivalence.

For people pretending that anti-fascist violence is the real problem, we’d ask: How do you expect people trying to keep themselves, their families, and their friends from being hospitalized or murdered by fascists to react?  Where is your outrage and condemnation of fascist violence?

straightboysyndrome asked:

Do you have like a guide or online resource on arming yourself? Cursory Google searches tend to just say communists "should" take arms but don't really explain how to get there. Sites that come up for self defence tend to heavily push tactical gear and brand new firearms which seems pretty price restricted and unnecessary. Surely there are thousands of old yet functional guns floating around?

“In a 6-to-3 vote, the Supreme Court ruled that border agents may unconstitutionally enter a person’s home without a warrant and assault him and … federal courts are powerless to do anything about it. The border, once again, is a Constitution-free zone.”

“60% of the population of the United States just lost any constitutional protections against warrantless assault or home invasion by armed agents.”

The court system is doing exactly what is was designed to do. It’s insulated from electoral influence so that it can apply any legal interpretation necessary to maintain and expand US power. It’s violated constitutional rights from the beginning, it’s always been about declaring what authority the ruling class wants the law to have.

The whole country needs to go.
