Looks like it might be time to get out the old “The WGA STRIKES!” T-shirt again…

The vote to strike was more than 97% in favor: the highest percentage on a “yes” vote in the Guild’s history.

I stand in solidarity with the WGA and its members.

GOP officials from McCurtain County, Okla. are being investigated by the FBI after they were caught on tape expressing their frustration about it not being socially acceptable beat up and hang Black people, as well as their desires to hire hitmen to kill newspaper reporters.

The audio was published by print-only newspaper McCurtain Gazette-News, and it released transcript of a recording from a county commissioners meeting last month to the public that allegedly incriminates several public officials after disturbing comments were made. The full audio recording from Gazette-News reporter Bruce Willingham will be released by the newspaper at a later date.

After hundreds came out in protest, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt ® has called for the resignation of McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy ®, District 2 Commissioner Mark Jennings ®, Investigator Alicia Manning and Jail Administrator Larry Hendrix for their comments in the meeting. District 3 Commissioner Robert Beck ® is also cited in the audio.

workingclasshistory:

On this day, 17 April 1943, Black students from Howard University staged a sit-in at the Little Palace Cafeteria, a segregated restaurant in Washington DC.
One of the organisers of this and other sit-ins in the city at the time was Pauli Murray (pictured), a young Black activist and feminist who identified as part female and part male, whose only significant romantic relationships were with women.
Murray helped organise another sit in the following year until the University ordered its students to desist. DC eventually banned segregation in restaurants in 1953.
