Happy first day of #SharkWeek! We’re kicking things off in a big way, with the megalodon! The prehistoric behemoth had the strongest bite force of any known animal, including T. rex. But these two megapredators never met.🦈🦖
The megalodon evolved just 23 million years ago–that’s long after large dinosaurs went extinct. This extinct shark lived until 3.6 million years ago, meaning it shared the planet with early hominids and overlapped with the great white shark for about a million years! See this life-size megalodon model and explore the underwater world of these amazing animals in the Museum’s special exhibition Sharks, which includes footage from @Discovery’s @SharkWeek! Link in bio for more details on our Sharks exhibition.
