My GOD the twitter drama is exploding. As of today, here are a couple updates for anyone interested:

lmao

This is proof of two things, both of which ought to have been common knowledge by now:

1) The stock market is a ponzi scheme. (How else do you explain a stock’s “value” tanking due to a joke?)

2) Capitalism punishes you for doing the right thing. (The specific jokes–that the market presumably thought were serious–were pretenses of doing this.)

foundationsofleninism:

“Capital does not consist in the fact that accumulated labour serves living labour as a means for new production. It consists in the fact that living labour serves accumulated labour as the means of preserving and multiplying its exchange value.”

If Earth had Saturn’s Rings

just–space:

From an excellent post by Jason Davis

From Washington, D.C., the rings would only fill a portion of the sky, but appear striking nonetheless. Here, we see them at sunrise.

image

From Guatemala, only 14 degrees above the equator, the rings would begin to stretch across the horizon. Their reflected light would make the moon much brighter.

image

From Earth’s equator, Saturn’s rings would be viewed edge-on, appearing as a thin, bright line bisecting the sky.

image

At the March and September equinoxes, the Sun would be positioned directly over the rings, casting a dramatic shadow at the equator.

image

At midnight at the Tropic of Capricorn, which sits at 23 degrees south latitude, the Earth casts a shadow over the middle of the rings, while the outer portions remain lit.
