Canada moment
So the whole thing is appalling. This woman has been disabled since 1989 and applied a few years ago for a stair lift from veterans affairs. After years of waiting, an employee at the VA has the gall to suggest medically assisted suicide if she couldn’t keep waiting.
There is no world in which that is appropriate, on any level. (no one can be *referred* to MAID, it is something a patient has to specifically go and ask their doctor about so what the fuck this person was even thinking is beyond me. It was grossly out of line, and speaks to a broader problem with lack of empathy for the lives and dignity of the disabled clients they are supposed to serve)
When she wrote to the Prime Minister to complain, it triggered an investigation and it turns out this employee suggested MAID to at least five other disabled veterans. They are suspended and the investigation is ongoing.
But in reading these articles I have to wonder…
Has Christine Gauthier gotten her damn stair lift??

I can’t tell you where the switchover was for me, but there is very much no longer a feeling of “How can this change/improve my life?” and a constant dread of “How will this complicate things as I try to maintain privacy and sanity in a world that demands I have this thing to operate”.
