December 21, 1949: Birthday of Comrade Thomas Sankara, revolutionary leader of Burkina Faso.

“Our revolution in Burkina Faso draws on the totality of man’s experiences since the first breath of humanity. We wish to be the heirs of all the revolutions of the world, of all the liberation struggles of the peoples of the Third World. We draw the lessons of the American revolution. The French revolution taught us the rights of man. The great October revolution brought victory to the proletariat and made possible the realization of the Paris Commune’s dreams of justice.”

—Thomas Sankara, October 1984

Keystone pipeline leaks 14,000 barrels of oil into creek in biggest spill yet -

j33zits:

Love how they used just a side view of the creek to minimize this. This is what the whole area looks like:

Oh, and by the way, they said “barrels” because that sounds smaller since that’s over 500,000 gallons.

But it’s a “leak”. “…the affected segment being ‘isolated’ and the drip contained.” Just a liddle whoopsie doodle, tee hee. And of course there’s virtually no coverage on any news site. It’s already off the front page of The Guardian.
