Every time I see this comic by The Other Wilcox, I feel such profound sadness. When this comic was released back in 2017, ibises here in Australia were being culled because they are considered by most to be a dirty, disease-ridden pest with a weird beak.

I hope all ibises are being protected by Thoth.

Agreeing with capitalism ideologically doesn’t make you a capitalist. A capitalist is someone who owns and manages capital.  A person who agrees with capitalism ideologically but doesn’t own or manage capital is called a “sucker.”

jordan peterson’s fucking insane all-meat diet is almost certainly going to kill him and i personally find that extremely entertaining

“i ate like a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and was overcome with an inexplicable sense of impending doom and couldn’t sleep for a month” like BITCH that is NOT a healthy reaction lmfao

like if someone threw a fruit in his general direction he’d probably fall over convulsing and start coughing up blood

The doomcider part is fucking amazing.

#cant wait for him to die of malnutrition#note: all or nearly all meat diets are possible and actually how many northern indigenous cultures lived#but they were getting all the things they needed by eating every edible part of the animal#and eating wild animals #not some steak from corn fed cattle

Exactly. High meat diets in the north aren’t based on steak and salt- the people up there were and are eating significant quantities of marine animals (wanna get vitamin D into your diet, seal fat’s a pretty good way to do that). Also, their “all meat” diet was/is supplemented with foraging; kelp, seaweed, berries, and roots form part of the diet annually. Finally, there’s actually pretty substantial carbohydrate intake in the form of dietary glycogen- indigenous peoples of the Arctic circle/polar regions have meat preservation practices that are pretty sophisticated. Generally, they will freeze meat under an animal hide with the blubber layer still intact for insulation. This leads to fermentation in the muscle fibers, creating carbs. Marine mammals also have high levels of dietary glycogen, which acts as an oxygen supplement for long dives. Finally, polar peoples eat a lot of foods frozen or raw, like seal brains- these contain high levels of vitamin C, which would be destroyed by the cooking process.

Also, the myth that this diet is good for you is just that, a myth. It was made up in the 70s by some Danish guys who wanted to sell fish oil. They never actually studied rates of heart disease in Arctic people, and when this was actually studied, it turns out that not only do indigenous Arctic people have a similar prevalence of coronary artery disease as western populations, they also have twice the risk of the rest of the North American population for death via  cerebrovascular strokes. This is one of the very, very few cases where the adoption of a more standard American diet has reduced mortality. In conclusion: humans are not obligate carnivores, eat a goddamn broccoli once in a while.
