On this day, 21 July 1936, this iconic photograph of 17-year-old socialist Marina Ginestà was taken in revolutionary Barcelona, just days after the start of the Spanish civil war. It was taken by Juan Guzmán atop the Hotel Colón. Ginestà survived the war and lived until 2014.

Satellite view of the Bent Pyramid
This distinctive shaped ancient Egyptian pyramid is located at the royal necropolis of Dahshur, approximately 40 kilometers south of Cairo. It was built under the Old Kingdom king Sneferu (ca. 2600 BC). A unique example of early pyramid development in Egypt, this was the second pyramid built by Sneferu.

On this day, 20 July 1925, Frantz Fanon, psychiatrist, anti-colonialist, philosopher, revolutionary and writer was born in Martinique. His famous works include ‘Black Skin, White Masks’ (1952) and ‘The Wretched of the Earth’ (1961).
