On this day, 12 September 2001, Spanish militant textile worker Dolores Prat died aged 96. A lifelong revolutionary, she fought for the 8-hour day from her teens, participated in the Spanish revolution and following its defeat escaped to France, where she and her family were first interned in a concentration camp, then deported back to Spain. Fortunately, she managed to escape almost-certain death by climbing back over the Pyrenees to France, eventually finding work in a quarry. She remained active with the CNT union in Excel, and aged 91 she began actively supporting undocumented migrants (sans papiers). Each year since 1996, a group of people have followed her route from Catalonia to France across the mountains.

Justify Failed a Drug Test Before Winning the Triple Crown - The New York Times

Only a handful of racing officials and people connected to Justify knew about the failed drug test, which occurred April 7, 2018, after Justify won the Santa Anita Derby. He tested positive for the drug scopolamine, a banned substance that veterinarians say can enhance performance, especially in the amount that was found in the horse.

Justify was undefeated at the time, but he still needed to finish first or second in the Santa Anita Derby to qualify for the Kentucky Derby, on May 5. While the colt won at Santa Anita, the failed drug test would mean disqualification and forfeiture of both the prize money and the entry into the Kentucky Derby that came with the victory.

None of that happened, though.

Test results, emails and internal memorandums in the Justify case show how California regulators waited nearly three weeks, until the Kentucky Derby was only nine days away, to notify Baffert that his Derby favorite had failed a doping test.

Four months later — and more than two months after Justify, Baffert and the horse’s owners celebrated their Triple Crown victory in New York — the board disposed of the inquiry altogether during a closed-door executive session. It decided, with little evidence, that the positive test could have been a result of Justify’s eating contaminated food. The board voted unanimously to dismiss the case. In October, it changed the penalty for a scopolamine violation to the lesser penalty of a fine and possible suspension.

A horse wins the Triple Crown under trump through his humans’ cheating. Who would have dreamed it?

“During the course of the Old Kingdom (about 2649-2150 B.C.E.), Egyptians not only created the pyramid, which has come to stand as an emblem of the civilization, but also defined the essence of their art, establishing a tradition that endured for three thousand years. Centering their attention on the human image but depicting animals, plants, landscapes, and inanimate objects as well, they served their culture’s all-encompassing goals of maintaining cosmic order and defeating death. This they did by preserving an idealized image of life in statues and reliefs destined for tombs and temples.

Working in a wide range of materials, they were able to express the multiplicity of existence by means of an artistic canon of circumscribed types, which they subtly varied and infused with innumerable realistic details. Keen observation of nature and a thorough understanding of human and animal bodies led to the invention of images of an extraordinary organic truthfullness. Intimate human relationships and impressions of daily life as well as the majestic pharaonic presence are captured in the many forms of their art. Sometimes stark, always straightforward, the images of this early period are graced by what one scholar termed “the charm of the first time.“”

Trump tweeted this statement earlier this week, which incorrectly included Alabama in the list of states that would be impacted by Hurricane Dorian:

image

This error was quickly addressed by the National Weather Service & the correction was picked up by the news

image

Of course, Trump couldn’t handle being corrected by meteorologists on the fucking weather so:

image
image

As someone who took two years of meteorology let me just say that a big concern regards mass panic when issuing weather alerts and warnings. You don’t want people unnecessarily leaving - jamming up the roads or putting themselves at risk (sometimes the safest thing to do is to stay put esp. if the roads are at risk of flooding), you don’t want confusion, and you definitely don’t want people to lose confidence in the weather warnings where they no longer take them seriously. And it doesn’t really help the cause when the fucking president of the country can’t issue a simple correction that HE WAS WRONG because of his fragile fucking ego.

image

Update: this fuckin guy is STILL going on about this

image

Also if you look at this photo it’s literally dated August 2 and Trump’s tweet was sent September 1 so this only further proves he gave out incorrect information after the fact so like… cool?

No words for the victims yet but at least he’s keeping up his beef with the goddamn National Weather Service.

Well if y’all can believe it, this story actually gets even weirder…

So earlier today Trump actually DISPLAYED AN ALTERED MAP IN AN OVAL OFFICE MEETING:

image

You see that line going into Alabama? Well…

President Trump on Wednesday displayed a map that he said reflected Hurricane Dorian’s original path, but the image appeared to be manually altered with a marker to show the storm’s trajectory continuing toward Alabama.

Trump later told reporters that he did not know anything about the changed map, but was adamant that original forecasts called for Alabama to be impacted by the hurricane. (x)

y’all i’m done

This post has everything, hurricanes, sharpies, alabama, a pathological lying reality show host as president

thats what cain used to kill abel

Okay but for real think of the possibilities.

Think of the life of a charging cable that doesn’t get taken everywhere. You would never lose it cause you wouldn’t have to bring it anywhere. You never have to bend it to fit in a pocket.

I want this phone.
