Ancient Egyptians gathered birds from the wild for sacrifice and mummification

In ancient Egypt, Sacred Ibises were collected from their natural habitats to be ritually sacrificed, according to a study released November 13, 2019 in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Sally Wasef of Griffith University, Australia and colleagues.

Egyptian catacombs are famously filled with the mummified bodies of Sacred Ibises. Between around 664 BC and 250 AD, it was common practice for the birds to be sacrificed, or much more rarely worshipped in ritual service to the god Thoth, and subsequently mummified. In ancient sites across Egypt, these mummified birds are stacked floor to ceiling along kilometers of catacombs, totaling many millions of birds. But how the Egyptians got access to so many birds has been a mystery; some ancient texts indicate that long-term farming and domestication may have been employed. Read more.

On this day, 26 May 1944, a general strike broke out in Marseille, Vichy France. Metalworkers, public servants and transport workers joined a stoppage of shipyard workers the previous day, demonstrating in front of the City Hall demanding “bread!”. To break the strike the Gestapo had to arrest 15,000 workers - but the crackdown was short lived as Marseille was liberated soon after.

Statue of King Djoser

This statue, found in a closed room called Serdab, northeast of the funerary complex of King Djoser at Saqqara, is the oldest known life-size statue in Egypt. It depicts King Djoser himself, seated on his throne and enveloped in a jubilee cloak. The statue was entirely coated with white plaster and painted. The deep-set eyes were once inlaid.

The king has a ceremonial false beard and wears a black wig topped by the royal Nemes headdress. The front side of the pedestal is inscribed with hieroglyphic text, indicating the name and epitaphs of King Nethery-khet of Upper and Lower Egypt.

Old Kingdom, 3rd Dynasty, reign of Djoser, ca. 2686-2649 BC. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. JE 49158

it’s even worse since almost all those companies are owned by Disney anyway so like, imagine the reblog chain thing except it’s 1 user with 5 sockpuppet accounts talking to themself for notes

As a person that used to run sockpuppet accounts for like 12 different businesses (over multiple platforms), I can confirm that’s exactly what’s happening
